SLEMAN - The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has created a "new space" as a model of an open, artificial and cyber democratic community cyberspace. Rector of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K., M.Sc. stated it in her speech at the Informatic National Seminar 2017 with the theme "e-Defense: Maintaining Data Security Facing Cyber ??Warfare to Strengthen the Sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia" on Saturday (25/11), at Hotel Sahid Yogyakarta.
According to the Rector, creating and forming cyberspace is as easy as turning the palm of the hand, and can be done anytime, anywhere, and by anyone who has a computer-based electronic device connected to the internet network.
There is no prohibition for anyone who wants to form and get into cyberspace. In the defense and security sector, according to the Professor of Geology, the threat could be the utilization of cyberspace for the activities of radicalism, terrorism, brain washing that can threaten and disturb the interests of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
To anticipate the war in the era of information (cyber walfare), continued Rector, it needed a collaboration movement between government, legislative, education, Academicians, and all the children of the nation. Meanwhile, on the same occasion Chairman of the Board of Experts ICT Ministry of Defense Prof. Richardus Eko Indrajit, said the strategic role of information technology in the defense and security sector was a tool to manage assets and defense resources. Information technology also serves as a medium of communication and interaction between units and human resources of defense.
In addition, he added, this technology was a means of supporting strategic decision-making defense and to monitor and protect the country's defense. He thought every institution that had an effect on the national cyber defense and resistance must have an excellent information security posture.
